The first ever technical school in Tacurong and in the whole province of Sultan Kudarat started as operation in the year of Our Lord nineteen hundred and eightyfive (1985). Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology or S.M.I.T as it is aptly called is originally located at the old Ventura building near Bautista Clinic in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat. Later on, it transferred to the Sandoval building along Alunan Highway, Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat.
Initially, it had run smoothly until problems are encountered such that student enrollment is slowly dwindling until it reached a point in time somewhere in 1993 that there areonly about ninety (90) students. The school is so besieged with difficulties that the incorporators are shying away.
Mr. Federico S. Señeres, Sr., a retired man of the military, possessing a "never say die" spirit and one of the incorporators, painstakingly hold on to the reign of a slowly crumbling school. Together with his wife, Mrs. Josephine S. Señeres, he rebuilt the school, enhanced its alipping image and put back the school, to its proper position: in the heartand mind of the youth and their parents here in Sultan Kudarat and in the outlaying communities.
Today, Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology, a private educational institution, run by Mr. Federico S. Señeres, Sr. and his family sits majestically in a more than one hectare prime property along the National Highway, Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat. It has widened its scope of operation with the offering of the pre-school, the high school and additional baccalaureate courses. Staffed by seasoned personnel and teaching force and with course offerings duly recognized and with corresponding permits granted by the duly constituted educational agencies of the Republic of the Philippines, Southern Mindano Institute of Technology with its updated training facilities, is more than ever committed on providing the necessary schooling that will equip the youth of Sultan Kudarat and neighboring communities for a challenging on life in this new millennium.
